How It All Began

John Armour began his career in the needle-punched felt industry as a carding line operator at a felt manufacturing plant in New England. Always striving for excellence, John concentrated on learning all facets of the felt industry. His dedication and work ethic were easily recognized and he was promoted to the position of Sales Manager for this $10,000,000+ company. His excellent reputation within the industry opened the doors to many opportunities, enabling John to gain invaluable experience working with leading felt manufacturers.

During these early years, John came to a frustrating realization - his commitment to understanding and servicing the unique needs of each individual customer was not considered “industry standard”. John’s desire to lift this standard was the driving force behind his decision to open his first company, Spentex (SPecialty ENgineered TEXtiles). Spentex was started in John’s home office in 1990 with a simple mission - listen to the customer and supply the products that they need to be successful. Needless to say, Spentex soon outgrew his home office and John opened an office and large warehouse facility in Placentia, California. In 1993, John changed the Spentex name to Monarch Textiles to reflect the leadership philosophy of the company. Monarch Textiles was incorporated in 1998.
